Tulsa Earns Five Top-Three Marks at Louisville Cardinal Invitational on Saturday

The Tulsa rowing team earned five top-three marks in the first day of racing at the Louisville Cardinal Invitational in Oak Ridge, Tenn. TU took on #14 Duke, #RV Navy, #RV Notre Dame and #20 Tennessee on Saturday morning, followed by #RV Clemson, #20 Tennessee and #11 Yale in the afternoon.
"We saw a lot of progress from morning to afternoon racing," Interim Head Coach Olivia Staff said. "We've have worked on their confidence and ownership of their race plan in spring training and today we saw them implement that. A lot of our new kids really stepped up for their first spring race and it is fun to watch as we compete against some top teams."
Chloe Henderson, Ermioni Lamprianidou, Becky Coleman, Johanna Kristof, Sarolta Papp, Karen Undset, Anna Shaw, Bass Andre and Kristina Harris turned in the best finish of the day with a time of 6:34.286 for second place in the Varsity 8+. TU trailed #20 Tennessee (6:33.221) by just 1.065 seconds, and topped both Notre Dame (6:36.541) and Navy (6:39.017). In the afternoon, the Golden Hurricane posted a time of 6:20.506, finishing behind Yale (6:02.791) and Tennessee (6:14.579), but crossing the line ahead of Clemson (6:22.517).
Tulsa's 2nd Varsity 4+ earned a third-place finish in the afternoon with a time of 7:40.161, and a fourth-place time of 7:58.866 in the morning race, while the 3rd Varsity 4+ was second in the afternoon (8:05.459) and third in the morning (8:47.184).
In the Varsity 4+ races, Tulsa finished fourth with times of 7:54.097 and 7:33.927, while the Second Varsity 8+ boat turned in fourth-place times of 6:58.719 and 6:36.346 in their races.
TU will race #RV Clemson, Louisville and #17 Wisconsin on Sunday morning.
