Tulsa Softball Headed to Wichita for Weekend Series

WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Tulsa softball team will take on the Wichita State Shockers this weekend in the first conference roadtrip of the season.

The teams will meet for a three-game series with games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. First pitch for game one is set for 5 p.m. on Friday and all games will air on ESPN+.

The Golden Hurricane brings a 12-19-1 mark into the weekend, with a 1-1-1 record in the American Athletic conference. Wichita State has a 17-10 record, and the Hurricane will be its first conference test of the season.

Wichita State holds a 31-27 advantage in the all-time series and won four out of five a season ago against Tulsa, including ending TU's season in the semifinals of The American Championship.

In the midweek, Tulsa traveled to Stillwater, Okla. to face No. 8 Oklahoma State. Unable to get anything going offensively, the Hurricane succumbed to the Cowgirls 10-0 in five innings.

Haley Morgan finished 1-for-2 and has increased her season batting average to a team-high .337. Abby Jones also singled and is hitting .323. Celeste Wood's average has fallen to .293, but the freshman continues to lead the team with 29 RBIs.

In the circle, Samantha Pochop fell to 7-8 after the OSU game, but holds a 2.92 ERA this season. The senior has 10 complete games in 17 starts and has struck out 111 while holding batters to a .226 batting average.

Wichita State faced the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners on Tuesday and left the Oklahoma with a 10-1 loss in five innings. The Shockers are led by Sydney McKinney, who's batting .543 this season with a team-high 51 hits, 10 doubles and a .989 on-base percentage. Addison Bernard's 13 home runs leads the squad and outpaces McKinney's eight.

Caitlin Bingham and Erin McDonald lead from the circle for the Shockers, with them making 14 and 12 appearances, eight and seven starts, respectively. However, both pitchers also have ERAs above 5.00.

After this weekend's series, Tulsa has another matchup with an in-state school looming. The Golden Hurricane will travel to Norman to take on the top-ranked Sooners on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on Bally Sports Extra.
