TULSA, Okla. ― Making up a match that was postponed last month due to weather, the Tulsa women's tennis team notched consecutive home victories inside the Michael D. Case Tennis Center Saturday, knocking off the Purdue Boilermakers 6-1. The Hurricane improve to 9-3 on the season, and 7-1 at home.
Tulsa started off strong, winning the doubles point behind 6-2 wins from both Valeriya Rozenkova/Maria Berlanga at No. 1 and Ana Naranjo Martinez/Lily Hutchings at No. 3. The victories were Tulsa's 25th and 26th doubles wins of the season.
The Hurricane got off to a fast start in singles play, winning the first set on five of the six courts. However, Purdue would answer with wins in the second set. Excluding court one, all matches went the full three sets, and Tulsa won all five. Tulsa improves to 44-17 in singles play this spring.
Lian Benedejcic won her third straight singles match and improved to 6-0 this spring, while Rozenkova also notched her third straight victory to improve to 6-1.
Tulsa will look to make it three in a row at home against AAC foe SMU next Saturday, March 12th, at noon. Admission is free to all home Tulsa tennis matches.
