SMU Knocks off Tulsa Saturday

TULSA, Okla. ― The Tulsa women's tennis team dropped Saturday's match against conference foe SMU 5-2 inside the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Tulsa drops to 9-4 overall, and 2-2 against American Athletic Conference teams.
Tulsa started off with the early doubles advantage, winning No. 2 and 3 doubles to claim a 1-0 match lead. It was the eleventh time the Hurricane have won the doubles point this season.
SMU came out swinging in singles play, winning in straight sets at No. 1, 2, and 5 singles. Tulsa would battle back, as Maria Berlanga, Valeriya Rozenkova, and Lian Benedejcic all went the full three sets.
After a Rozenkova victory at No. 4 singles, the Hurricane needed wins from Berlanga and Benedejcic to pull off the come-back victory. The two would just fall short, as Benedejcic fell after almost extending her third set.
Tulsa will make the short trip to Norman on Thursday to face off against No. 3 Oklahoma before returning home to host South Florida on Sunday.
