Tulsa's Varsity 8+ earned a spot in the Grand Final, while the 2nd Varsity 8+ and Varsity 4+ boats will compete in the Petite Final on Saturday after the Heats were raced on Friday afternoon at the Sunshine State Invitational in Sarasota, Fla.
"Against solid competition and racing back-to-back weekends all of our boats showed more consistency down the course today," Interim Head Coach Olivia Staff said. "The Varsity 8+ went bow for bow with Louisville and Drexel all the way to the finish line, which is good experience for everyone here to be put into tight and tough racing situations. We are improving week to week with how we stay internal and focusing on our own race plans, and we hope to see improvement through commitment and teamwork as we head into the Finals."
Chloe Henderson, Ermioni Lamprianidou, Becky Coleman, Johanna Kristof, Sarolta Papp, Karen Undset, Anna Shaw, Bass Andre and Kristina Harris turned in a time of 6:33.09 for third place in Heat 2. The TU boat trailed Louisville (6:32.40) and Drexel (6:32.67), but topped Miami (6:38.06), Kansas (6:42.99) and Stetson (6:53.98).
The Golden Hurricane's 2nd Varsity 8+ recorded a fifth-place time of 6:57.66 in Heat 2 after Drexel (6:40.26), Louisville (6:42.78), Miami (6:43.49) and Kansas (6:50.12) crossed the finish line. TU was ahead of Stetson (7:11.81) in the race.
Tulsa's Varsity 4+ turned in a time of 7:52.91 in Heat 2, finishing after Kansas (7:35.25), Drexel (7:37.90), Louisville (7:40.01) and Miami (7:45.68), but before Stetson (8:27.48).
