Tulsa’s Varsity 8+ Earns Bronze Medal at Sunshine Invitational

Tulsa's Varsity 8+ earned a bronze medal in the final day of racing at the Sunshine State Invitational in Sarasota, Fla., on Saturday morning.
"With improvements from all our crews from Heats to Finals, the team is happy with their racing," Interim Head Coach Olivia Staff said. "The Varsity 8+ has shown great resilience in keeping speed and continuing to compete all the way down the course. They flipped the margins from the Heats yesterday and came away with a bronze medal in the Grand Final.
As coaches, we are excited going into the next few weeks as we can have more of a focus on individual technical changes."
Chloe Henderson, Ermioni Lamprianidou, Becky Coleman, Johanna Kristof, Sarolta Papp, Karen Undset, Anna Shaw, Bass Andre and Kristina Harris turned in a time of 6:33.11 to earn the bronze medal in the Varsity 8+ Grand Final. TU was just 4.36 seconds behind first-place UCF (6:28.75) and 1.9 seconds behind Iowa (6:31.21). TU topped Drexel (6:33.38), Northeastern (6:35.40) and Louisville (6:35.74) in the race.
In the 2nd Varsity 8+ Petite Final, the Golden Hurricane earned a second-place time of 6:45.46, trailing Kansas by just 1.24 seconds (6:44.22). Tulsa finished ahead of Jacksonville (6:47.13), Northeastern (6:47.32) and Stetson (7:10.68) in the event.
TU finished fourth in the Varsity 4+ Petite Final with a time of 7:54.39. Louisville (7:29.65), Miami (7:40.46), Jacksonville (7:45.36) and Stetson (8:20.50) also competed in the race.
Tulsa will return to action on Saturday, April 23 against Iowa and Michigan State in Coralville, Iowa.
