
Tulsa Storms Back to Defeat Houston and Advance to AAC Semifinals

AAC WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
TULSA, Okla. ― After dropping the doubles point, which had only happened four times prior to today, Tulsa stormed back, winning at No. 1, 2, 3, and 4 singles, in that order, to defeat sixth seeded Houston and advance to the American Athletic Conference Semifinals for the seventh straight year. The third seeded Hurricane will fast second seed SMU, who beat Cincinnati 4-0 earlier today, at 3 p.m.
Laia Conde Monfort continued her exceptional season, winning 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, her sixth straight victory. The junior is now 13-3 this season, all from No. 1 singles. Shura Poppe also won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles that gave Tulsa a 2-1 lead.
After dropping their first sets, both Maria Berlanga and Valeriya Rozenkova clawed back. Berlanga dropped the first set 3-6 before taking the next two sets 6-2, 6-2 for the 12th win of her freshman campaign. Rozenkova was in a 2-6 hole before clinching the victory in three sets at No. 4 singles.
TU will look to advance to the conference championship game for a second straight year. First serve is set for 3 p.m. following the men's quarterfinal matches at noon. Admission is free to the AAC Championships.
