Tulsa Track Returns With Meets in Iowa, California, and Kansas

TULSA, Okla. – Following a weekend off, the Tulsa track and field team returns to action this week with a trio of meets, sending 13 athletes to compete at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, six distance runners to compete at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, California, and 19 athletes to the Rock Chalk Classic, hosted by Kansas.
The Drake Relays is a four-day meet starting today, and consists of athletes from universities, colleges, and a separate high school competition. Among those heading to Iowa is Layla Roebke, who is coming off a 5,000-meter win at the Sooner Invite & Multis.
Friday's Payton Jordan Invitational will be the second trip to the Silicon Valley region after competing in the Stanford Invitational earlier this month. TU has Isaac Akers, Shay McEvoy, and Micheal Power set to run the 1,500-meter, while Scott Beattie, Cormac Dalton, and Peter Lynch will compete in the 5,000-meter. At the Stanford Invitational, Power tallied the second-fastest 5,000-meter time in school history at 13:29.57, while Akers secured the third-fastest at 13:32.84. Beattie finished in 7th in the 10,000-meter.
The Rock Chalk Classic, which takes place on Saturday, April 30th, consists of 19 teams, including Wichita State and Oral Roberts. The Hurricane will compete in 15 different events between the men and the women, including sprints, hurdles, and relay teams.
