ORLANDO, Fla. –– The University of Tulsa softball team ended its conference road season with an 8-0 loss in six innings to No. 21 UCF at UCF Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Hurricane ends the weekend 15-29-1, 4-9-1 in the American Athletic Conference, while UCF will fight for the conference regular season title next weekend while holding a 42-11 record, 14-11 in the American.
The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first and never looked back, scoring a run in every inning but the third, and scoring four in the fourth. Tulsa couldn't get anything going, getting shutout in the run and hit columns while committing one error, while UCF scored its eight runs on 14 hits and made one error.
Samantha Pochop (10-13) went 3.1 innings and was charged with five runs, four earned, and eight hits while walking three and striking out one. Makenzie Brown pitched the final 2.1 innings and gave up six hits and three runs.
Tulsa got runners on in the first and second innings but went down in order the remainder of the early afternoon. Kylie Norwood walked to lead off the game but was left on second.
The following inning, Abby Jones reached on a bouncing ball up the middle. The throw took the first baseman off the bag for an error. A walk to Claira Skaggs put two on, but Tulsa was unable to get the runners in.
The Hurricane will return to the Collins Family Softball Complex to wrap up the regular season against East Carolina next weekend. The series will start with a 5 p.m. Friday game and end with senior day on Sunday. All games will air on ESPN+.
