TULSA, Okla. ––
A five-run second inning helped the University of Tulsa softball team shutout East Carolina 8-0 in five innings in front of 245 fans at the Collins Family Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The win moves Tulsa to 17-29-1 and 6-9-1 in the American Athletic Conference, while ECU drops to 20-34, 2-15 in The American.

Kylee Nash earned the start in the circle and threw 2.1 innings of work, allowing four hits but no runs. Makenzie Brown came in with two on in the second and pitched the rest of the way while giving up one hit, striking out five and walking four to earn her third win of the season.

Logyn Estes got the start and the loss for the Pirates, throwing 2.1 innings and giving up five runs, four earned, on three hits. Taylor Smith and Addy Bullis also featured in the circle.

Tulsa got on the board in the first inning and never looked back. Haley Morgan drew a one-out walk and advanced to third on a single from Abby Jones. She eventually scored on a wild pitch.

The big second inning began in a similar fashion as catcher Rylee Keith earned the one-out walk this time. After Celeste Wood singled, Kennedy Cramer pinch ran at second base for the junior catcher.

A fielding error allowed everyone to reach safely and load the bases with one out. This brought up Kylie Norwood who hammered a ball up the middle to bring in Wood. Kramer followed suit after the center fielder misplayed the ball, giving Tulsa a 3-0 lead.

Haley Morgan quickly doubled Tulsa's lead after ECU made a mid-inning pitching change. She welcomed the new hurler with a three-run blast well over the wall in left-center, her fifth home run of the season. A double play ended the inning, but TU took a 6-0 advantage into the third.

Claira Skaggs added to Tulsa's lead in the bottom of the third as she launched the first home run of her career, a solo shot to right. Norwood picked up another RBI later in the inning as she doubled down the right field line to bring in Keith from second.

The Pirates would threaten runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but Tulsa's pitching and defense was up to the task. ECU loaded the bases in the fourth with one out, and Brown responded with back-to-back strikeouts. The Pirates would put two on in the fifth, but Brown blew a fastball by the last batter to end the game with a strikeout.

Tulsa will go for the series sweep on Sunday as the Hurricane and Pirates meet one last time. Tulsa will honor MaKayla Jackson, Kylie Norwood and Samantha Pochop for Senior Day as they end their careers at the Collins Family Softball Complex. First pitch is set for noon and the game will air on ESPN+.
