TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa named Jacey Smith to the Golden Hurricane volleyball coaching staff as an assistant coach, first-year head coach Lauren Ramatowski announced today.
"First, Jacey is a wonderful communicator" said Ramatowski. "She's excellent at building relationships with student athletes. She shows them how much she cares while sharing her knowledge of the game. As far as recruiting goes, Jacey's Texas background has helped her stay connected in the Dallas, Austin and San Antonio areas. I'm excited about her ability to tap into those markets, as well as establishing relationships in the state of Oklahoma."
Smith joins Tulsa after a one-year stint as a volunteer assistant coach at Kansas State, where she helped the Wildcats finish the 2022 season atop the Big 12 in service aces (183). K-State also finished in the top half of the league in digs (1,571), digs per set (14.28), service aces per set (1.66), blocks (285), blocks per set (2.59), points (1,831) and points per set (16.65).
Before coaching at K-State, Smith served as assistant coach at McMurry University for one year. There, she led recruiting efforts in signing four players during the spring in addition to leading and organizing practices, facilities and academics.
Previously, Smith spent three seasons at Mary Hardin-Baylor, first as a graduate assistant coach and later was promoted to a full-time assistant coaching position. She helped lead The Cru to a 64-12 (.842) overall record and 46-3 (.939) mark during conference play, as UMHB claimed three American Southwest Conference West Division titles.
With Smith's help, Mary Hardin-Baylor earned the ASC West Coaching Staff of the Year Award in the spring of 2021. Smith handled many duties as an assistant coach, including building scouting reports, leading team meetings, team defense and serve receive duties in addition to travel preparations.
Smith was a four-year letterwinner at Abilene Christian (2015-18), where she left as the program's Division I-era leader in kills (1,185), aces (95) and points (1,390.5). A two-time All-Southland Conference second team honoree, Smith led the Wildcats to a runner-up finish in the Southland Conference in 2017.
A native of Wimberley, Texas, Smith earned her bachelor's degree in sport and recreation management from ACU in 2019. She received her master's in sport administration from Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2021.
