COLUMBUS, Ohio — The University of Tulsa men's tennis team came close but could not close out, falling 4-3 to the Oregon Ducks (3-0) Saturday during the opening round of ITA Kickoff Weekend in Columbus, Ohio.

The loss drops the Golden Hurricane to 1-2 on the year.

The doubles point came down to the No. 1 position after Oregon won the No. 2 position, followed by a win at No. 3 by Tulsa's No. 53-ranked duo Adham Gaber and Ezequiel Santalla.

At No. 1 Doubles, Kody Pearson and Connor Di Marco fought to a tiebreaker against the country's 11^th-ranked doubles team of Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele. The Tulsa duo narrowly lost the tiebreaker 7-5, giving Charlton and Vandecasteele the win and the doubles point to the Ducks

In singles play, Kody Pearson, Vova Zakharov and Ezequiel Santalla all won their matches at the No. 1, 5 and 6 positions, respectively. The dual came down to No. 2 Singles, where Stefan Hampe battled through two sets that each required a tiebreaker.

In the second set tiebreaker, Hampe jumped out to a 4-0 lead but was unable to hold on as Quinn Vandecasteele rattled off seven straight points to seal the match, and the dual, for the Ducks.

The Tulsa men will return to action tomorrow, Jan. 29, to face UCF (1-2) in a consolation match at 8 a.m.
