TU Women Wrap Up ITA Kickoff Weekend With 4-1 Win Over Minnesota

NORMAN, Okla. — The University of Tulsa women's tennis team concluded ITA Kickoff Weekend in Norman Sunday with a 4-1 win over Minnesota (0-2) in the consolation round.

The victory improves the Golden Hurricane's record to 4-2 overall.

Minnesota clinched the doubles point at the No. 1 spot, where the Golden Gophers outlasted Tulsa's Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings in a match that ended with a 7-3 tiebreaker.

Because the Gophers could not fill every singles position, Tulsa was awarded a team point at the No. 6 position to open singles play, tying the team scores at 1-1. Tulsa's Laia Conde Monfort (No. 1), Myroslava Zelenchuk (No. 4) and Lily Hutchings (No. 3) rattled off three singles wins, all in straight sets, to win the dual for the Hurricane.

Tulsa will return to action on the road to take on the DePaul Blue Demons (1-2) on Saturday, Feb. 4.
