TEAM RESULTS I INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. –– For the second consecutive season, the Tulsa women's golf team captured the team championship at their own Dale McNamara Invitational on Tuesday at the par-72 Golf Club of Oklahoma course.
Tulsa finished the 54-hole tournament with an 8-under par 856 total, holding off fellow American Athletic Conference members South Florida and UTSA. USF finished two strokes behind the Hurricane at 6-under 858, while UTSA turned in a 4-under 860 total score.
Colorado State (862) and Nebraska (870) rounded out the top-five schools, while UTSA's Camryn Carreon took home individual medalist honors with a 12-under par 204 total with rounds of 69-68-67.
"Obviously, I'm proud of our team. It's fun to win. We stepped up when we needed to. We had some rough little bumps, and we need to keep getting better. But it's nice to win. It's always nice to win, especially at home," said Tulsa Head Coach Annie Young.
Tulsa sophomore Jenni Roller, a local product from Jenks and Regent Prep High School, had a career-best fourth place performance with her best collegiate score of 5-under 211. Roller turned in her second straight 70 in final round action as she posted four birdies and just two bogies.
"It's always great when a hometown kid does a good job. Jenni was really close to Dale (McNamara) as well, so that's even more special. She knows the golf course, which obviously helps. It's fun – she had a lot of supporters out there, too. Everybody out there and all the volunteers know Jenni Roller, and she stepped up big for us this week. Hopefully, we can continue it," added Young.
Fellow sophomore Grace Kilcrease also turned in a final score of 2-under 70, her best round of the tournament. Kilcrease's birdies on three of her final six holes helped Tulsa secure the victory. She finished 15th overall with a three-round total of 217.
Super senior Lilly Thomas and junior Sydney Seigel tied for 10th place at even-par 216, giving the Hurricane four of the top-15 finishers among the 86 participants. Thomas had a final round even-par 72, while Seigel shot 76 for the day.
Redshirt freshman Allyn Stephens finished in 27th place for the Hurricane with a final round 77 after yesterday's scores of 72 and 71.
Tulsa had three players also compete as individuals including Lovisa Gunnar, Hanna Robinett and Norah Seidel. Gunnar placed 23rd overall after today's 2-under par 70 for a 3-over par 219 total score, while Robinett had her best collegiate finish in 42nd place after today's round of even-par 72 put her at 7-over 224 for the tournament. Seidel placed 71st overall with a 232 total a=sore after her best round of the tournament at 2-over 74.
Tulsa will close out the fall season at The Ally, hosted by Mississippi State, Oct. 23-25, in West Point, Miss.
