TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa women's basketball team entered the Mabee Center Saturday looking to protect the Mayor's Cup and move to 4-0 on the year, but a slow fourth quarter doomed the Golden Hurricane to a 93-87 setback to the cross-town rival Oral Roberts Golden Eagles.
The Hurricane falls to 3-1 in the first loss of the season, while ORU moves to 3-2 and takes the Mayor's Cup for the first time since the 2017-18 season.
Tulsa averaged 24.7 points per quarter and led 74-68 heading into the fourth period, where the Hurricane was held to 13 points while Oral Roberts' 25 points helped the Golden Eagles surge past TU late. ORU broke the 87-87 tie at 1:20 and ran away with the game from there.
Delanie Crawford put up a team-high 23 points for Tulsa, moving to four straight games with 20 or more points on the year. She shot 50 percent from the field (7-14), sank three shots from beyond the arch and went a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line.
"We put a lot on [Delanie Crawford]'s shoulders," said Head Coach Angie Nelp. She did a great job and came through. And Caranda Perea stepped up big time for us, especially in the first half in the scores she was able to give us. She's a great player and I'm so excited for her as she fits into our system more. We definitely needed her scoring, so I was so proud of the way she stepped up."
Perea shot perfectly from the field in the first half, landing seven shots, including a deep three, to lead the team in first-half scoring with 15 points. Other double-digit scorers were Temira Poindexter (15) and Katia Gallegos (10).
Crawford and Hadley Periman led Tulsa's defense with seven rebounds each, both securing two offensive boards and five defensive rebounds. Mady Cartwright stole the ball three times and Poindexter recorded three blocks.

IN THE SECOND QUARTER . . .
TU's biggest lead of the game came early in the second quarter at 27-15, a 12-point advantage. Though the Golden Eagles closed the gap and trailed by as few as two points at 38-36, the Hurricane maintained the lead the whole way, closing out the first half on top 47-44.
Both Caranda Perea and Delanie Crawford went 3-for-3 on field goals while Hadley Periman, Mady Cartwright and Amira Brown each came away with two rebounds.
