KATY, Texas. – The Tulsa women's basketball team pulled out the win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff to open the Van Chancellor Classic in Katy, Texas, surviving 90-79 in overtime at the Merrell Center. The Golden Hurricane improved to 4-1 overall while the Lions dropped to 1-3.

"The players on this team are so amazing," said Head Coach Angie Nelp. "Our bench was simply incredible in this game and the energy they gave made all the difference. There were times when our girls were quickly on and off the court and everything they did mattered."

Tulsa's bench shot 58.3 percent from the field and produced 19 total points.

"It was our defensive stops that helped us in overtime," said Nelp. "We were able to stay within our zones and make some adjustments. This team is amazing in the way that they prepare for games and do their own scouting. They won today because of their heart. We saw a team today that refused to lose and played together."

Temira Poindexter had a monster game on offense for Tulsa, putting up a career-high 32 points off 12 field goals, including five from beyond the arc to go with three made free throws. Delanie Crawford followed up with 19 points, Katia Gallegos put up 15 points and Ahrray Young had 12 points.
