No. 45 Tulsa Drops 4-1 Decision to No. 56 Pepperdine

TULSA, Okla — The University of Tulsa men's tennis team fell 4-1 Saturday to the No. 56 Pepperdine Waves (3-5) in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The loss drops the Golden Hurricane's record to 5-4 on the season.

The doubles point was snatched by Pepperdine with 6-4, and 6-1 wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. Timothy Carlsson Seger and Daniel Siddall had a chance to take the No. 3 spot but could not close out in time before the doubles point was clinched by the Waves.

In singles play, junior Volodymyr Zakharov highlighted the match for the Hurricane when he took down his opponent in straight sets at the No. 4 position to finish first overall in the singles lineup. The Odessa, Ukraine, product scored the first game point of the match and did not let go of the lead.

Zakharov jumped out to a 5-3 lead in the first set before he closed out at 6-3. He then cruised to a 6-0 sweep over the Waves' Eric Hadigian in the second set to score Tulsa's lone point of the dual match.

After Zakharov's victory, Pepperdine would go on to score at the No. 6, 3, and 5 positions to seal away the match.

Tulsa will hit the road next weekend for a head-to-head conference battle with No. 42 Memphis (4-2) on Sunday, Mar. 5. Time is to be determined.
