Tulsa Men Earn Back-To-Back Wins on Sunday

TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa men's tennis team picked up wins against Texas Tech (2-4) and Oral Roberts (1-5) Sunday in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The Golden Hurricane opened with a 4-2 win over Texas Tech and a 7-0 victory over ORU in the nightcap, while winning its third straight match and improving to 4-2 on the year.

TU opened the day against Texas Tech, where Tulsa dropped the doubles point to the Red Raiders. The one-point deficit would not phase the Hurricane, as Kody Pearson (No. 1), Daniel Siddall (No. 6) and Volodymyr Zakharov (No. 4) rattled off three straight wins in singles action to put Tulsa up 3-1.

After a win at Singles No. 2 by the Raiders, junior Volodymyr Zakharov clinched the dual-match win for the Hurricane with a three-set win over Tyler Stewart at the No. 4 position, capped off with a 12-4 run through his final two sets.

Tulsa welcomed cross-town rival Oral Roberts to the Case Tennis Center Sunday evening. The Hurricane secured the doubles point thanks to wins by Daniel Siddall and Timothy Carlsson Seger at the No. 2 position and Kody Pearson and Connor Di Marco at the No. 1 spot.

In singles play, all TU athletes in the lineup needed only two sets to take down their Golden Eagle opponents. Siddall capped off the night with a 6-2, 7-6(3) victory with ORU's Kevin Leuenberger. In the second set, neither athlete led by more than one point. Down 5-6 late in the set, Siddall stormed back to tie the set, forcing a tiebreaker set that he decisively won 7-3.

Tulsa will return to action in 10 days to take on Arkansas (9-1) in Fayetteville.
