No. 68 Women’s Tennis Tops VCU, 4-2

NEW ORLEANS, La. — The University of Tulsa women's tennis team earned a 4-2 victory over the VCU Rams (5-11) Saturday at the City Park Tennis Center in New Orleans.

The win improves the Golden Hurricane to 10-6 on the year.

Tulsa dropped the doubles point as VCU prevailed 6-2 and 6-3 in the first and third positions, respectfully.

The unfazed Hurricane came out strong in singles play, earning wins in the No. 1, 2, 4 and 6 positions. TU's performance was highlighted by sophomores Maria Berlanga Bandera and Myroslava Zelenchuk (No. 4), who took down their respective VCU opponents in straight sets.

Berlanga's 7-5, 6-2 decision at No. 2 Singles improves her to 11-3 in dual matches and 15-7 on the year, both team-leading singles records. Her win on Saturday marks her fifth victory in a row.

Zelenchuk's 6-4, 6-4 win in the No. 4 spot moves her to 15-8 on the year and 6-4 in the fourth position. She's won two of her last three head-to-head matches.

Tulsa will remain in New Orleans to take on Tulane (7-8) tomorrow at noon. The dual match will stream on ESPN+.
