No. 52 Tulsa Suffers Home Loss to No. 17 Arizona

TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa men's team dropped a 6-1 decision to the No. 17 Arizona Wildcats (12-3) Wednesday night at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The loss drops the Golden Hurricane to 5-6 on the year.

The doubles point came down to the No. 3 position after the Wildcats took the No. 2 spot 6-3 and senior duo Connor Di Marco and Kody Pearson won 6-3 at No. 1 Doubles. Seniors Stefan Hampe and Ezequiel Santalla battled to a 6-6 score but could not close out in the tiebreaker set to lose 7-6(2) and drop the doubles point for TU.

Scoring Tulsa's only point was 34^th-ranked Kody Pearson at the No. 1 position against No. 78 Colton Smith. In the first set, Pearson took the lead at 2-1 and did not look back on the way to a 6-4 decision. In set two, he found himself in a 4-0 deficit and had to fight from behind as Smith finished the set on top 6-3.

Pearson remained unphased as he jumped out to a 3-0 lead to start the third set. He held the three-point lead all the way to a 6-3 victory to close out 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Pearson is now 10-1 overall, 8-1 at No. 1 Singles and 5-0 against nationally ranked singles opponents.

Tulsa will head to College Station, Texas, to take on No. 39 Texas A&M (6-6) on Tuesday, Mar. 14, at 6 p.m.
