Tulsa Track Continues to Improve at John McDonnell and Payton Jordan Invitationals

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. & STANFORD, Calif. — Of the 27 University of Tulsa track athletes that raced in the John McDonnell Invitational and the Payton Jordan Invitational on Friday, 15 set new personal bests and 11 earned top-10 finishes in their respective events.

Highlighting action at the John McDonnell for the Golden Hurricane was sophomore Anna Mager, who ran a 58.77 400-meter hurdles. The mark not only earned her a second-place finish out of 12 runners but also stands as the third-fastest finish in The American.

Mager also ran in two relay teams for Tulsa, including a 4x400-meter relay squad—also featuring Jayda Gibson, Raniya Laneau and Elizabeth Roca—that took first overall in 3:43.69 for what stands as the fifth-fastest time in the conference.

Scott Beattie ran the men's 5,000-meter run in 13:30.57 at the Payton Jordan Invitational, finishing fourth in a flight featuring 22 total competitors. He now owns the top marks in the conference in the 5,000-meter and the 10,000-meter (27:58.92), both of which are top-15 times in the nation.

Tulsa will be back in action next week at the Drake Relays (April 27-29) and the Rock Chalk Classic (April 29).
