TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa track team is set to compete in the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships from Friday, May 12, through Sunday, May 14, at the USF Track Complex in Tampa, Fla. The Golden Hurricane will send 37 student-athletes—21 men and 16 women—to race in 21 initial events.

Short and middle-distance events will have preliminary races spanning Friday and Saturday, with finals running all day on Sunday. All long-distance races (3,000m steeplechase and longer) are final.

The three-day meet will stream on ESPN+. TU fans can subscribe to ESPN+ to watch select Golden Hurricane track, basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball events. ESPN+ is offered at $9.99/month or $99.99/year. To subscribe, go to plus.espn.com.

Seven of last year's outdoor all-conference athletes will return in this year's meet, including Isaac Akers (1,500m, 5,000m), Christian Baker (3,000m steeplechase), Scott Beattie (5,000m), Chloe Hershenow (5,000m, 10,000m), Micheal Power (1,500m), Malte Propp (10,000m) and Layla Roebke (3,000m steeplechase, 5,000m). To earn all-conference honors, athletes must place within the top three of a given event.

Hershenow will look to repeat her all-conference performances from last year. She enters the weekend atop the conference in both the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs. Her 10,000-meter mark of 33:21.75—a TU outdoor record—ranks 37 seconds ahead of teammate Sara Scott, the next-closest mark in the conference. Hershenow ranks among the country's top 100 in the 5,000 (85) and 10,000-meter (48th) events.

Roebke looks to repeat as conference champion in both the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meter run. Owner of a new Tulsa steeplechase record (10:07.80), she enters the weekend with the top overall mark in the conference and the country's 34th-best time. Roebke will be joined by eight other TU athletes in this weekend's 5,000-meter final.

Baker, the new Tulsa and AAC record owner of the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:38.66), will appear in the preliminary 1,500-meters and the 5,000-meter run final this weekend. Joining him in the latter event are 13 other Hurricane athletes, including Scott Beattie (13), Shay McEvoy (74) and Shuaib Aljabaly (91), who each rank among the nation's top 100 in the event.

Last year, the Tulsa men placed third overall with 123 points, while the women came in fourth place with 83 points. TU claimed five overall conference titles and 16 all-conference honors.
