TAMPA, Fla. — Running from sunrise to sundown with another afternoon weather delay thrown into the mix, The University of Tulsa track team produced two champions, six all-conference performances and four qualifiers for finals Saturday at The American Outdoor Championships in Tampa. The Golden Hurricane women are tied for first place (36 points) with Wichita State while the men are in sixth place (19 points) heading into the final day of action on Sunday.

Saturday's finals qualifiers were Josh Sutton (100-meters), Evan Sanni-Thomas (400-meters), Novo Onovwerosuoke (400-meters) and Sean Korsmo (800-meters). Placing among the top three and earning all-conference awards were Alicen Ashley (steeplechase), Chloe Hershenow (10,000-meters), Layla Roebke (steeplechase), Sara Scott (10,000-meters), Pete Johnson (steeplechase) and Malte Propp (10,000-meters)

"We had a mixed bag on day two," said Head Coach Steve Gulley. "The women had a huge 3,000-meter steeplechase with two freshmen really stepping up for us. Since we're tied for first place, we're bound for a strong team finish if we can hit on a few events tomorrow."

"On the men's side, we got who we needed through to finals, and we were pleasantly surprised with Novo Onovwerosuoke's performance in the 400-meters to land him in the finals. Pete Johnson capped off a great night with a new personal best and a third-place finish in the steeplechase. We just need to maximize our points in tomorrow's finals and see if we can bring home some more medals."

Scoring 10 points each for the Tulsa women were juniors Chloe Hershenow and Layla Roebke. Hershenow earned her second-consecutive championship win in the 10,000-meter run with a 37:02.61 performance.

Roebke cruised to a championship win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:11.61, beating out the second-place finisher by nearly 18 seconds. She is now a back-to-back conference champion in the steeplechase.

Tomorrow's finals begin for Tulsa with the women's 4x100-meter relays at 3:30 p.m.
