Four TU Women’s Tennis Athletes Tabbed to Academic All-District Team

TULSA, Okla. — University of Tulsa student-athletes Lian Benedejcic, Laia Conde Monfort, Lily Hutchings and Ana Naranjo Martinez were named to the 2023 Academic All-District Women's Tennis Team as selected by the College Sports Communicators. This honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Benedejcic, a senior from Ancarano, Slovenia, maintains a 3.82 GPA in organizational studies. She went 10-11 overall in singles play across positions 3-6 and earned an 8-2 doubles mark during the fall season. Benedejcic scored Tulsa's fourth team point during the Hurricane's 7-0 sweep over Omaha with a 6-2, 6-1 decision at Singles No. 3.
Hailing from Castello, Spain, Monfort holds a 3.661 GPA in elementary education. A unanimous all-conference selection and American Player of the Week (January 31), Monfort led the way for the Golden Hurricane with an 18-11 overall record and a 14-7 mark at No. 1 Singles. The senior paired with Ana Naranjo Martinez at No. 2 Doubles, where she posted a 12-9 record and secured the doubles point for Tulsa against Wyoming, Purdue, Furman, San Diego State, Tulane, Cincinnati and Wichita State (April 20).
A sophomore from Preston, England, Hutchings has a 3.545 GPA in Exercise and Sports Science. She went 15-12 overall in singles play and starred at No. 3 Singles. She clinched Tulsa's 4-1 victory over Minnesota with a 6-2, 7-5 performance during ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Hutchings broke the 3-3 tie against Wichita State (February 18) with a 0-6, 7-6(8), 6-2 win to give the Hurricane the 4-3 victory at home. She also secured the Hurricane's 4-1 rout of Memphis with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 decision to end the regular season.
Hutchings led Tulsa with a 19-12 overall record in doubles play and formed TU's top doubles tandem with teammate Maria Berlanga Bandera, going 13-7 together at the No. 1 position. Together, they earned their first ITA doubles ranking (88) in the April 4 poll.
Naranjo, a sophomore from Michoacan, Mexico, maintains a 3.556 GPA in Exercise and Sports Science. This season, she went 10-4 in singles play, including 8-2 across positions 4-6. Naranjo battled to a 5-7, 7-6(2), 7-6(3) win in the fifth position to secure Tulsa's 4-3 win over Tulane. In addition, she capped off TU's 4-0 sweep over Cincinnati with a 6-4, 6-4 score at Singles No. 5. In doubles play, Naranjo earned an 18-14 overall doubles record and went 12-9 with partner Laia Conde Monfort at the No. 2 position.
Hutchings and Naranjo will return for the Hurricane next season.
