Scott Beattie and Cormac Dalton look to bring home another NCAA 10,000m title

AUSTIN, Texas –– The University of Tulsa seniors Scott Beattie and Cormac Dalton will race in the 10,000-meters at the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's Outdoor Championships tonight (Wednesday, June 7) on the University of Texas campus.

The 10,000m is scheduled to start at 9:08 p.m. (CT) on the first day of the national championship event at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

At the NCAA First Round in Sacramento, Calif. on May 24, Beattie (28:21.971) and Dalton (28:21.978) crossed the finish line within seven-hundredths of a second of each other, with Beattie edging out Dalton as the fourth overall finisher.

The pair are the eighth and ninth student-athletes in program history to advance to the NCAA 10,000-meter final. Tulsa's Marc Scott won the NCAA 10,000m race in 2017, while Patrick Dever claimed the 10,000m title at the 2021 NCAA Championships.

Beattie, from Newcastle, England, earned American Athletic Conference honors for both indoor and outdoor track this season as he won the 5,000m indoor title and placed second at the outdoor meet. He is the school record-holder in the indoor 3,000m (7:49.33) and 5,000m (13:32.38).

The duo did not compete in the 10,000m at The American Championships this season.

Dalton, from Mullinger, Ireland, claimed the league title for the 5,000m at the AAC Outdoor Championship after earning all-conference honors for cross country and indoor track. He also earned All-America honors in cross country for the second straight year with a 15th place performance at the NCAA Championships in the fall.
