Tulsa brings a 3-3-2 record into Friday's game. TU dropped its most recent match against UNLV 2-1 in a game that was called in the 71st minute due to weather on Saturday. Sergio Baena scored on a penalty kick to level the score in the opening half, but UNLV responded to retake the lead early in the second half. Despite Tulsa putting pressure on the Rebels, a storm helped the visitors escape with the win. The loss snapped a regular season home winning streak that dated back to a 1-0 loss to Cincinnati on Oct. 19, 2019. Tulsa had gone 20-0-6 prior to the loss.
Malik Henry Scott leads the Tulsa offense with four goals this season, while Sergio Baena has scored three teams. Mike Eijgendaal has scored twice, and three other Hurricane have scored at least once.
Junior goalkeeper Alex Lopez has played every minute this season while making 19 saves. With the tie against Creighton last week, he picked up his second shutout in the season and 14th for his career. This moved him past Tyrel Lacey (2005-08) for second all-time in school history. Jake McGuire (2013-16) tops the list with 17 career goalkeeper clean sheets.
UAB enters Friday's matchup seeking its first win of the season. The Blazers are 0-4-4 and 0-1-1 in The American. They've tied in their past two matches, 2-2 at Temple and 1-1 against Georgia Southern.
The underclassmen have been getting it done in the attack for the Blazers, scoring eight of the team's nine goals. Freshmen Isaac Calderon and Humphrey Doh lead the Blazers with two goals apiece, while four others have found the net once.
Jack Hudson has been in the net primarily for UAB, playing in and starting six games. He's allowed 15 goals, averaging 2.59 allowed per game.
Tulsa holds an 11-3-2 edge in the all-time series against the Blazers. The teams met last season and battled to a scoreless draw in Birmingham, Ala.
