TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa women's tennis team wrapped up its season-opening homestand with a 6-1 victory Sunday over the Central Arkansas Bears in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Golden Hurricane have won five straight to improve to 5-0, while the Bears dropped to 1-1.

Tulsa is the first in the American Athletic Conference to reach five wins and is one of four teams without a blemish on its overall record.

In doubles play, junior pair Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings took care of business atop the lineup with a quick 6-1 victory over their UCA opponents. Tulsa's duos in the second and third positions found themselves in 2-5 and 3-5 deficits, respectfully, before both teams took control and stormed back for 7-5 finishes each. It was freshman Tayla Wilmot and junior Ana Naranjo Martinez who clinched Tulsa's opening score in the No. 3 position before freshman Saniya Singh and junior Myroslava Zelenchuk wrapped it up in the No. 2 spot.

For the third time this season, Berlanga was the first to finish in the singles lineup, this time with a 6-3, 6-0 win in the No. 1 slot. Wilmot followed up in the No. 6 position with a 6-1, 6-3 finish to put the Hurricane up 3-0.

Clinching the team victory at 4-0 was Zelenchuk who battled her way to a 6-0, 6-2 performance in the fifth position. After electing to play on, Tulsa increased its lead to 6-0 with wins by Hutchings (6-3, 6-4) and Naranjo (6-0, 7-5) in the No. 3 and No. 4 positions.

Central Arkansas got on the board in the final singles match of the day when the Bears' Fuka Nonoyama survived a 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) two-set shootout with TU's Oleksandra Nahurska, putting the final score at 6-1.
