TULSA, Okla. –– Temple outscored Tulsa by 19 points in the second half and went on to a 58-48 win Saturday afternoon in front of a crowd of 1,218 at the Donald. W. Reynolds Center. Tulsa fell to 12-4 and 2-1 in American Athletic Conference play, while the Owls improved to 8-7 overall and 2-1 in league action.

Tulsa had its poorest shooting game of the season, making 28 percent overall and just 24 percent from three-point range. Temple wasn't much better at 30 percent and 27.8 from behind the arc. However, the Owls attempted 70 field goals to Tulsa's 50, making 21 to Tulsa's 14 made shots.

The Owls also dominated on the boards 51-36. Although 24 of Temple's rebounds came on the offensive glass the Owls still only managed 14 second-chance points.

Both teams played without a key starters due to illness and injury. Tulsa was missing guards Ahhray Young and Katia Gallegos, while the Owls were without starting guard Tiarra East.

The loss snapped a seven-game overall and six-game home winning streak for the Hurricane.

"There were a few things just didn't go our way. We didn't do well in a few areas, but I felt like our defense was on point. Early in the game in the first half, I thought we did a great job of moving the ball on offense and being able to attack in different ways," said Tulsa Head Coach Angie Nelp.

"We know we've got to get better and this is going to be a great learning opportunity and growth opportunity for us. We know that we've got to rebound the ball better. The loss hurts and there's nobody who's hurting more than our players right now in that locker room. They prepare well and they give their whole heart, so these kinds of losses are really hard. We're going to be able to go back and reflect on this game and we're going to be a better team."

After an even first quarter that ended at 18-all, Tulsa outscored the Owls in the second period by a count of 13-4 to take a 31-22 lead into intermission.

Tulsa's lead reached to 12 points twice in the third quarter. The first coming on a three-point play by Caranda Perea at the 8:54 mark, and the second with 5:24 left on the game clock as Poindexter hit a driving layup for a 41-29 lead.
