
Tulsa Men’s Soccer Hosts FAU on Friday

TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa men's soccer team is back in the Hurricane Soccer Stadium to host Florida Atlantic in an American Athletic Conference showdown on Friday evening.
Kickoff with the Owls is set for 7 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.

Tulsa (1-7-1, 0-2-0 The American) was outscored 7-1 in a pair of losses at Kansas City and FIU last week. Florida Atlantic (2-3-3, 0-1-1 The American) drew 1-1 with Temple in a Sunday matchup earlier in the week. FAU outshot Temple 10-6 and had a 12-3 advantage in corners. Despite this, Temple took the lead in the 69th minute before FAU equalized five minutes later.
The Hurricane has won all three games against the Owls and has yet to concede against Florida Atlantic. TU won 2-0 on the road last season, 3-0 in 2022 and 3-0 when the teams first met in 2013.
Early goals were again a problem for Tulsa in its loss at FIU. The Panthers struck inside 10 minutes to take a 1-0 advantage. Ander Bengoetxea scored Tulsa's first road goal of the season to level the game in the 59th, but FIU scored twice in the final seven minutes to win 3-1.
Bengoetxea joins Camilo Vargas as Tulsa's multi-goal scorers in 2024. Vargas still holds the team lead with five points with an assist. Ian Belong holds the team lead with two assists this year.
Senior Alex Lopez has logged 540 minutes in goal, while freshman Carlito Saylon has played 270 minutes between the sticks. They both hold a 2.33 goals against average, though Lopez has 20 saves to Saylon's eight.
Mamadou Diarra leads the Owls frontline with three goals and four assists, recording 10 points on the season. Noah Kvifte also has a trio of goals. Aboubacar Traore and Sebastian Zettl each have two goals, while Traore added four assists and Zettl, three. Those four have done all the scoring this season for FAU.
Nacho Alfaro has logged every minute between the sticks, allowing nine goals over 720 minutes of action. The FAU goalkeeper has a 1.13 goals against average with 24 saves and three shutouts.
After Friday night's game, the Golden Hurricane will stay home to host nonconference foe Central Arkansas on Tuesday night. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
