Tulsa Wins Frosh 4+ and Open 2x Races at Head of the Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Tulsa rowing team had athletes compete in seven different races at the season-opening Head of the Oklahoma regatta and won the Collegiate Frosh 4+ and Open 2x Saturday on the Oklahoma River in Oklahoma City.

A freshman race, Tulsa's Frosh 4+ boat coxed by Aubrey Duggan, cruised to a win in 16:10.3 over Colorado, TCU, Rice, Oklahoma State, Central Oklahoma, Wichita State, Colorado State, Colorado B, Oklahoma State B and Texas Tech. Ana Kublova, Danica Swetz, Kate Agare and Steffi Brewer powered their boat to the finish line three minutes and 37 seconds faster than the second-place boat.

Tulsa's winning 2x boat was piloted by true freshman Mia Lowes and unattached partner Letizia Susenna, who together finished first over 10 other boats in 16:39.9.

"Overall it's a really pleasing set of results for us," Head Coach Brandon Campbell said. "We've improved across the board compared to last year. There are great signs of progress with our established varsity rowers as well as the new freshmen with four different crews all coming home with medals."

Other top-three boats were Darya Vyrupayeva (third; 17:48.7) in the Collegiate 1x and the Open 4x, manned by Kaya Smith, Sydney Wahle, Abbey Tillotson and Eva Settle, who finished unopposed in 18:11.8

The Tulsa rowers will be back in action on Oct. 26, when the Golden Hurricane will host Oklahoma and Central Oklahoma for a head race in nearby Catoosa, Okla.
