Tulsa Adds Six All-Conference Performances and One Title to End AAC Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Both the Tulsa men's and women's track teams finished fourth overall Saturday to wrap up the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships in the Birmingham Crossplex. Each Golden Hurricane team had three all-conference performances to go with one new title on the men's side.

Senior Malte Propp was one of three men in the entire meet to amass 20 team points. He did so with two first-place finishes in the 3,000 and 5,000-meters, while senior Chloe Hershenow led the women with 16 points resulting from a title win in Friday's 5,000-meter run and a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meters Saturday.

The South Florida men and the Charlotte women captured the overall team titles.

Women
Redshirt senior Katharina Pesendorfer and freshman Amy Morefield got things going for Tulsa in the mile run final. Both competitors finished within two seconds of each other as Pesendorfer would claim third place in 4:51.82 to earn her second all-conference honor of the weekend after helping the women's distance medley relay take home silver on Friday.

Following the mile was another all-conference performance from Tulsa, this time by senior Elizabeth Roca who zoomed to a third-place finish in 54.11, just nine-hundredths of a second shy of first place.

Sophomore Sarah Hosey represented TU in the 800-meter run, where she placed fifth with a time of 2:10.79.

The 3,000-meters featured seven women, of which five placed in the top 20, three in the top 10 and one on the podium. Finishing third overall for a new personal best was senior Tamara Reeves, who raced to a 9:34.66 finish, just six-hundredths of a second ahead of teammate Chloe Hershenow.

"I am extremely proud of these young ladies in the new-look conference," said Director of Track and Women's Head Coach Steve Gulley. "I think we got everything we could out of them this weekend. I believe we maximized our potential. We just need to have more women at the meet going forward."

Men
Junior duo Jaden Forester and Sean Korsmo opened action for the men in the mile run. Both men ran an excellent race as Forester would finish sixth in 4:06.89 and Korsmo second in 4:05.10. Although Korsmo dove at the finish line to try to secure the title, the effort would come up short as the first place runner from Charlotte would win by just 0.03 seconds.

Junior Evan Sanni-Thomas competed in Saturday's final round of the 400-meter dash and finished seventh in a season-best 47.50.

The men's 3,000-meter run ensued and ended with one of the best finishes in recent memory. All six of Tulsa's runners finished in the top-10 in the event and would sweep the top four spots to claim a whopping 29 team points. Leading the charge was senior Malte Propp, who had just won Friday's 5,000-meter run in meet-record-setting fashion (13:47.96). Propp's time of 8:01.74 paced the Tulsa runners as the Rostock, Germany, product earned his second title of the meet.

"I'm beyond proud of what this group came out and accomplished this weekend," said Men's Head Coach Taylor Gulley. "To place fourth and only one point off third with 10 athletes across five events all weekend was a massive display of heart and competitiveness from this team. Just an incredible effort from the guys."
