TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa track and field teams are back in action as the Golden Hurricane will open the outdoor season in Arlington, Texas, at the UTA Invitational. 30 student-athletes—16 women and 14 men—will compete in 11 events on Friday, March 8.
Â
13 student-athletes will see outdoor action for the first time in their careers at Tulsa, including junior transfer Kamree Dye (John Brown), sophomore Karlie Wooten, freshmen Sajara Hill, Mary Rocco-Phillips and Anastasia Small, along with indoor all-conference runner Billie Rouse.
Â
On the men's side, junior transfer Colton Berquist (Lake Sumter State), redshirt freshmen Iain Salter and transfer Grant Brawley (Marquette), joined by freshmen James Knockton, Jonathan Lee, Brennon Mason, Jayden Williams and will make their outdoor debuts.
Â
Tulsa returns six all-conference performers from last year's outdoor rosters. Senior Chloe Hershenow enters her fourth outdoor season for the Hurricane after being crowned the outdoor conference champion in the women's 5,000m (16:42.51) and 10,000m (37:02.61) last year.
Â
Other returning AAC Outdoor Championship podium finishers who earned all-conference honors a year ago include reigning Women's Outdoor Freshman of the Year Alicen Ashley (3,000m Steeplechase) and junior Sara Scott (10,000m) on the women's side, while the men return junior Sean Korsmo (800m), senior Shay McEvoy (1,500m) and senior Malte Propp (10,000m), who's coming off a fresh pair of conference indoor title wins in the 3,000m and 5,000m.
Â
After the UTA Invitational, Tulsa will return to action on March 29 at the WashU Distance Carnival in St. Louis. Then, the Hurricane will compete in the Stanford Invitational from March 29-30, to wrap up the March slate.Â
Tulsa will compete in up to seven total meets across the month of April, starting on the 6th with the Arkansas Spring Invitational. From April 11-13, Tulsa will concurrently have athletes competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., and the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kan., as well as Oklahoma's John Jacobs Invitational, which spans April 12-13. In the back half of the month, Hurricane athletes will race in Arkansas's John McDonnell Invite on the 18th and 19th and the Drake Relays in Des Moines from April 24-27 before heading back to Stanford to conclude a busy April with the Payton Jordan Invitational on the 26th.
Â
Tulsa will open May with the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in San Antonio from May 10-12 and will follow with the NCAA West Regionals, hosted this year by Arkansas in Fayetteville, on May 22-25.
Â
The outdoor season will conclude with the NCAA outdoor meet on the Oregon campus in Eugene from June 5-8.
