Tulsa Golfers Advance to Semifinals in Match Play at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club

NORMAN, Okla. – The Tulsa women's golf team opened play at The Match Play at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club Monday with a solid round of stroke play to earn the second-seed position heading into Match Play.

Tulsa advanced to Tuesday's semifinal round with a Match Play victory Monday afternoon.

Tulsa finished second in the round of stroke play with a 2-over par 290 score, trailing first-place Oklahoma by eight strokes. The Sooners carded a round of 6-under par 282 on its home course.

The remaining team finishes in stroke play, three thru eight, were North Texas (292), Texas Tech (297), Kansas State (299), Tulane (304), Houston (304) and Oklahoma State (308).

Tulsa and Houston squared off in the first round of Match Play as the Golden Hurricane claimed a 4-1 victory and advanced to a Tuesday morning semifinal match against North Texas. As the No. 3 seed, UNT grabbed a 3-1-1 win over Tulane in their first match.

Hurricane wins came from juniors Lovisa Gunnar at 3-up and Sydney Seigel 5-up, and sophomores Jenni Roller 5-up and Grace Kilcrease 2-up. Redshirt freshman Allyn Stephens lost her match 6-up.

Other match winners were host Oklahoma 4-1 winners over Oklahoma State and Texas Tech with a 4-1 win over Kansas State.

In stroke play competition earlier in the day, Stephens finished in a third-place tie with a 1-under par 71, while Grace Kilcrease was one stroke back at even-par 72 to finish in a tie for eighth place. Roller was one shot behind Kilcrease at 1-over 73. Tulsa juniors Gunnar and Seigel shot rounds of 74 and 77, respectively, ending stroke play competition in 15^th and 27^th place.
