PALO ALTO, Calif. — The University of Tulsa men's and women's tennis teams were selected to participate in the 2024 UTR Sports National Invitational Tennis (NIT) Championship. All matches will stream on Amazon Prime Video at no additional cost to Amazon Prime members.

In its second year as an official national postseason tournament, the NIT Championship will be hosted at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., from May 5-8. The one-seed and 69th-ranked men's team will open the tournament against Saint Louis on Sunday, May 5, while the third-seeded women's squad will begin tournament play against Wyoming on Monday, May 6. Match times are still to be determined.

Sunday will mark the first postseason match for the men's team since 2022 when the Hurricane made an appearance in the NCAA First Round. For the women, it's the first postseason action since TU's historic run to the NCAA Sweet 16 to cap off an all-time great season in 2018.

An exclusive postseason tournament, eight of the top men's and women's college tennis teams from across the country will compete for the NIT Championship titles. The tournament allows programs to gain valuable postseason experience. The participating teams were selected by the NIT Championship tournament committee, with the teams' UTR Power 6 ranking among the top criteria for consideration. The Power 6 ranking is determined by adding up the individual verified UTR Ratings of the six highest, most reliably rated players on a team.

The NIT Championship started in 2023. UTR Sports, then Universal Tennis, launched the tournament as part of its continued effort to support college tennis programs across the country. In the inaugural tournament a year ago, the one-seed TCU Horned Frogs beat Stetson 4-0 to win the women's title. On the men's side, the third-seeded Liberty Flames took down the top-seeded Vanderbilt Commodores 4-1.
