
First Round in the Books at NCAA Women’s Golf Championship

CARLSBAD, Calif. –– The Tulsa women golfers finished first round play at the NCAA Championship on Friday in 30th place. The Golden Hurricane carded a 15-over par score of 303 at the par 72 La Costa Champions Course in Carlsbad, California.
Clemson leads the 30-team field after an 8-under par score of 280, followed by Texas A&M (281). Stanford, Auburn and Northwestern closed out the top-5, tied for third place with 3-under 285 totals.
Sydney Seigel turned in Tulsa's best round of the day with a 1-over par 73 to tie for 58th place. She had three birdies and four bogeys to make-up her total for opening round action.
Fellow junior Lovisa Gunnar is two strokes back with a 3-over par round of 75 for 87th place, while sophomore Grace Kilcrease is one behind Gunnar with a score of 76 and in 99th place.
Starting on hole 10, Kilcrease jumped out to a solid round shooting 2-under with three birdies and just one bogey after her first nine holes. She was 3-under heading into her final three holes of the day when she shot an eight on the par-4 seventh hole and had a triple bogey on the par-4 ninth hole.
Redshirt freshman Allyn Stephens carded a round of 79 and sophomore Jenni Roller scored an 80 in opening round action.
Play continues Saturday with 18 holes and another 18 holes on Sunday as the top-15 teams after Sunday's round will advance to the final stroke play round on Monday. The top-8 teams from stroke play will qualify for match-play competition to crown the team champion.
