Tulsa Track Sends Six to NCAA West First Rounds

TULSA, Okla. — Four Tulsa men and two women have an opportunity to earn a spot in the NCAA Track and Field Championships (June 5-8) this week at the NCAA West First Rounds hosted by the University of Arkansas from May 22-25. The men's side will be represented by redshirt junior Chris McLeod and seniors Christian Baker, Shay McEvoy and Malte Propp, and the women's team will showcase senior Chloe Hershenow and redshirt senior Katharina Pesendorfer. These student-athletes qualified for first-round action as top-48 declared competitors in their respective events.

Starting on Wednesday evening, Propp (28:40.13) and McLeod (28:40.83) will headline the 10,000-meter semifinal at 9:10 p.m. They qualified as the 28th and 29th fastest region runners in the event. The top 12 finishers will advance to the national meet, which the University of Oregon will host.

Thursday's action will feature senior Chloe Hershenow in the women's 10,000-meter semifinal at 9:10 p.m. Hershenow enters the event as the 47th-fastest declared runner (34:16.95). She will also need a top-12 finish to advance to nationals in Eugene, Oregon.

Two more long-distance men will race on Friday, starting with senior Christian Baker in the 3,000-meter steeplechase quarterfinals at 4:25 p.m. Baker holds the 24th-quickest regional time at 8:46.63. The steeplechase is divided into three heats of 16 runners, and the three fastest finishers in each flight along with the next three quickest overall finishers will advance to Eugene.

Senior Shay McEvoy (13:46.18) will appear in the 5,000-meter semifinal starting at 6:55 p.m. He will need a top-five heat performance or claim one of the remaining spots given to the next best two finishers to move on.

Redshirt senior Katharina Pesendorfer will close out the meet for Tulsa in Saturday's 3,000-meter steeplechase quarterfinal at 5:40 p.m. Pesendorfer (10:21.13) ranks 29th in the region and needs a top-three heat finish or grab one of the remaining three spots as the next best placer in the event.
