Tennis teams and 11 athletes earn ITA academic awards

Tulsa Tennis Teams, 11 Student-Athletes Earn ITA Academic Honors

TEMPE, Ariz. –– The University of Tulsa men's and women's tennis teams were recognized as Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Teams while 11 Golden Hurricane student-athletes – seven women and four men – were named Division I ITA Scholar-Athletes, the ITA announced Monday.
 
The men's team put together a 3.37 GPA for the 2023-24 academic school year, and the women's boasted a 3.75 GPA, the highest team GPA across all sports in Tulsa Athletics.
 
The seven TU women earning scholar-athlete honors include Maria Berlanga Bandera, Lily Hutchings, Ana Naranjo Martinez, Oleksandra Nahurska, Tayla Wilmot, Myroslava Zelenchuk and Sofiia Zhylchuk. Callum Gale, Calum Jestin, Will Pellegrini and Thiago Pernas represent the men's side.
 
To be recognized as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, students must maintain a 3.5 grade point average for the current academic year. Qualification for the ITA All-Academic Team requires a team to possess a GPA of 3.2 or above for the year.
 
In 2023-24, over 2,500 student-athletes and 401 programs at the Division I level earned ITA academic honors. There were 1,573 women and 1,059 men who achieved ITA Scholar-Athlete status while 225 women's teams and 176 men's programs were named all-academic.
