Men’s Soccer Opens 2024 Season at UNLV

TULSA, Okla. –– The 2024 Tulsa men's soccer campaign gets underway on Wednesday as the Golden Hurricane heads west to take on UNLV at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
Kickoff is set for 10 p.m. (CT) and will air on WAC International, which requires an account that can be created for free.
Tulsa Head Coach Tom McIntosh is in charge for his 30th season at the helm of the program. The Hurricane returns 19 members from last season's squad. 14 newcomers make up the remainder of this season's team.
Back between the sticks is preseason The American Goalkeeper of the Year Alex Lopez. Lopez has a career 1.12 goals against average with 122 saves and 14 solo shutouts. Senior midfielder Yuki Sekiguchi, who was named to the preseason all-conference team alongside Lopez, is the team's leading returner in points. Sekiguchi tallied a goal with four assists in 2023.
UNLV finished 7-8-4 a year ago and returns 16 players from the squad with nine newcomers prepared to see their first action. The Rebels escaped Tulsa with a 2-1 win in 2023 in a game that was called in the 71st minute due to weather. Senior Nico Lopez returns to anchor the UNLV midfield. Lopez played and started all 19 games his junior campaign, leading the team with seven goals and five assists, tallying 19 points.
The Rebels lead the all-time series 5-3-0.
After Thursday's matchup, Tulsa will look forward to the home opener on Wednesday, August 28 against Louisville. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
