This is the second meeting between Tulsa and Texas A&M-Commerce as the two teams met a year ago in Commerce, Texas, in a game that ended in a 2-0 decision for the Lions.
The Lions are 1-3-1 through five games. Their lone victory came in a 4-1 winner over Oral Roberts in the season opener. Last time out, Commerce fell 1-0 to Tarleton and tied North Texas 2-2.
Texas A&M-Commerce was voted to finish second in the Southland Conference behind defending champion Lamar. Seven Lions also earned preseason all-conference nods, including leading scorer Hannah Bell, who has three goals under her belt.
Junior forward Jordan Frederick has been the ultimate team player through three weeks of competition. She entered the week tied with four other players for first in the nation with six assists. Frederick's also second in the country in assists per game (1). Her ability to work the ball around defenders so often has allowed her to find open teammates in scoring position.
True freshman forward Blaine Schutte also finds herself on the NCAA statistical leaderboards. She and Izzy Engle of Notre Dame are the only freshmen in all of Division I to have six total goals at this stage of the season. Schutte's six goals tie 12 other players from around the nation as the third-highest goal total this season.
As a team, Tulsa is second in the country for total goals (23), total assists (24) and total points (70), fifth in assists per game (4.00) and points per game (11.67), sixth in goal differential (+17), eighth in shots per game (22.17) and 27th in corner kicks per contest (7.33).
