10/2/2025 9:34:00 PM | Women's Soccer
TULSA, Okla. — No. 9 Memphis (10-0-2, 4-0-1) maintained their unbeaten streak with a 1-0 victory over the University of Tulsa (6-4-4, 1-2-2) at Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium, capitalizing on a first-half goal to secure the win.
The first half commenced with Tulsa's Tatum Sanders in goal, facing an early challenge from Memphis's Elise Perron, whose shot in the 4th minute was saved. Memphis maintained offensive pressure, taking several corner kicks and shots, including one from Ashley Henderson that hit the right woodwork in the 11th minute. Memphis broke the deadlock in the 40th minute with a penalty kick goal by Finley Lavin. Tulsa's Hannah Chance attempted two shots late in the half, both missing the target, bringing her to 14 on the season, as the visitors held a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Memphis maintained pressure throughout the second half against the Golden Hurricane, though neither team managed to alter the scoreline. Perron attempted to break through early with a shot in the 49th minute, which went wide. Sanders was instrumental in goal, making several crucial saves, including stopping shots from Memphis's Mihiro Furuya in the 52nd minute and Henderson at the 83rd minute. Despite multiple corner kick opportunities, the Tigers could not find the back of the net, as Tulsa's defense let in nothing off of Memphis' 11 corner kicks. This defensive effort was a highlight in a game where Tulsa was held to the fewest shots of any game this season, leaving the final score unchanged at 1-0 in favor of Memphis.
The Golden Hurricane holds a record of 6-4-4 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play. The Tigers remain unbeaten at 10-0-2 overall and 4-0-1 in conference competition.
In their next game, Tulsa women's soccer will host UAB on October 9 in a 7 p.m. match at their home field in Tulsa, Okla.
