10/27/2025 6:26:00 PM | Rowing
LAWRENCE, Kan. — The University of Tulsa rowing team sent eight boats to the Head of the Kansas regatta over the weekend, producing wins by the 1V8 and 4+ "A" crews in both races held by the Jayhawks on the Kansas River. Joining the Golden Hurricane and hosting Jayhawks were the Kansas State Wildcats and Creighton Bluejays.
The first race featured 15 boats, 11 of which were Varsity 8's and the final four were four-woman crews. Tulsa's 1V8 group took on the first of two races on the day – both 4.5 kilometers long – and won it in 15:34.627, just one second ahead of Kansas' 1V8 (15:35.873).
Coxing TU's 1V8 was Bri Gfroerer, with Hannah Elsobky on the stroke and Steffi Brewer on the bow. Between them were Darya Vyrupayeva, Ella Abraham, Emily Bell, Seraina Hatt, Danielle Winter and Letizia Susenna
Later in the day, the second race featured 22 total crews, of which five were 4+ boats from Tulsa. Leading the way was the Golden Hurricane's "A" boat in 17:01.898. Once again, the coxswain was Bri Gfroerer. Her stroke was manned by Kamila Krpcova and Hela Belhadj was on the bow. Between them were Susenna and Vyrupayeva.
Tulsa will open the spring season on March 21, 2026, with a home scrimmage against Drake.
