Facing the Houston Christian Huskies
- This will be the first-ever meeting between Tulsa and HCU.
- Tulsa is 19-20 all-time against opponents from the Southland Conference.
- The Huskies are 0-2 after falling to #5 LSU and falling 75-71 in double OT against Tarleton State, both on the road.
- Last season, the Huskies went 6-23 overall and 3-17 in conference play.
- HCU is led by Grace Booth and Jordan Jackson, who each average 13.5 points per game. Both also puts up nine boards per contest.
Toman Named American Conference Freshman of the Week
- After making an immediate impact in her first two collegiate games for the Golden Hurricane, Dora Toman has been selected as the first American Conference Freshman of the Week this season.
- Toman finished week one as the league leader in blocks (5), blocks per game (2.5) and minutes per game (36.53).
- She also led all conference freshmen in steals per game (2.5), total steals (5), assists per game (5.0) and total assists (10) through two games.
- Toman also ended the week ranked second in rebounding among all conference freshmen behind Tulsa's Alisha Peavy, earning 9.0 boards per game.
- In the Golden Hurricane's 79-59 win over Prairie View A&M, Toman led TU with 14 boards, five assists, three steals and two blocks. Prior to that, she led Tulsa in the season-opening win against New Orleans with five assists and three blocks.
Freshmen Shine Through First Two Games
- Tulsa has cruised to 17+ victories to start the year, thanks in part to significant contributions by three true freshmen, two of which have earned the starting nod.
- Alisha Peavy (San Antonio, Texas) and Dora Toman (Budapest, Hungary) started in their first collegiate contests for TU, with Peavy producing 12 boards per game, while Toman has led Tulsa in assists and blocks twice, and rebounding and steals once.
- Haven Fisher, from Prior Lake, Minn., has come off the bench twice to score 11 points against UNO and 14 points against Prairie View. She currently has 12.5 points per game in 24.7 minutes in each contest.
- Fisher even had a third-quarter buzzer-beater against Prairie View, helping TU win that game by 20 points (79-59).
Cartwright Enjoys Career Night to Open the New Season
- Mady Cartwright had the best performance of her career to begin her junior season on Wednesday's season-opener against New Orleans.
- The guard from Greenwood, Ark., set new career-highs in points (26), steals (5), field goals made (9), field goals attempted (17) and 3-pointers made (6).
- Cartwright's 26 points is tied for the most by an American Conference player in a single game through Saturday, November 8.
Nelp's Success
- Head Coach Angie Nelp earned her 73rd win for the Golden Hurricane at UAB (2/22) in a 72-68 overtime comeback thriller, surpassing Charlene Thomas-Swinson's (2005-11) 72 wins for third on the all-time TU coach wins list.
- She is currently 78-49 entering game No. 3 of her fifth season..
- Nelp needs 14 more wins to pass Kathy McConnell-Miller (1999-05) for the second-most wins in program history.
- No previous Tulsa coach had ever reached 70 wins in just their fourth season.
- Only three other TU head coaches won more than 70 games in their careers.
- Nelp is the only coach in program history to earn 10+ home wins in three straight seasons.
- Nelp is also the only coach to lead Tulsa to three postseasons.
- Finally, Nelp is the only TU coach to have more than two consecutive winning seasons leading the Golden Hurricane.
Last Time Out: Jegede's 29 Points, Toman's 14 Boards Push Tulsa to 20-Point Win over Prairie View A&M
- Tulsa (2-0) defeated Prairie View A&M (0-2) 79-59 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center, with a 40-22 advantage in paint points.
- Abby Jegede exploded with a career-high 29 points off 9/16 field goal shooting, including 2/3 from deep, and 9/10 from the free throw line.
- Meanwhile, Toman led the Golden Hurricane in the rest of the statistical categories, finishing with 14 boards, five assists, three steals, and two blocks.
Mady Cartwright Poised for Big Junior Season
- Returning guard Mady Cartwright is expected to make a big leap in 2025-26 as the American Conference head coaches have tabbed her a second team preseason all-conference player.
- From Greenwood, Ark., Cartwright ended her sophomore season last year on a high note, scoring 10 or more points in the final seven games of the year to help push the Golden Hurricane to their third postseason in the last four seasons.
- After starting in all 32 contests, Cartwright finished with averages of 10.5 points (336), 3.6 rebounds (116), 1.9 assists (61) and 1.5 steals (47) in 27.0 minutes per game.
- Overall, Cartwright had 17 double-figure scoring games, including two 20+ point efforts, one double-figure rebounding contest and one double-double. She led Tulsa in steals for 10 games, assists in six contests, scoring on four occasions, and rebounds and blocks twice.
Teresa Seppala Nationally Recognized
- Coming off a stellar junior season at Siena, senior Teresa Seppala was named to the 2025 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award Preseason Watch list. She is the second Golden Hurricane hooper to represent Tulsa on the watch list after Delanie Crawford made the list ahead of last season.
- A guard from Tampere, Finland, Seppala appeared and started in 28 games last year for the Saints. She led the team with 16.7 points per game as well as 1.7 steals per outing, while averaging 6.2 rebounds per contest, marking the third consecutive year averaging that mark or better over the course of a season.
- She set the Siena single-season free throw percentage record at 92.6% which ranked sixth nationally and scored in double-figures in 25 games, including nine with 20+ points and one over 30. She would end the year with two double-doubles.
- As the first Finnish player to ever play for the Golden Hurricane, Seppala holds career averages of 13.7 points (1,189), 6.4 boards (558) and 1.7 assists (145) per game, while shooting 44.5% from the field, 37.8% from beyond the arc and 83.3% at the line in 74 starts spanning 87 total games played. She was a two-time MAAC First Team All-Conference choice, three-time MAAC player of the Week, a two-time MAAC All-Academic selection and made one appearance on the NCAA Lineup of the Week.
An International Take on Golden Hurricane Basketball
- Tulsa's 2025-26 squad features seven international student-athletes on the 15-player roster.
- No Angie Nelp team has ever had more than one player from outside the United States. She's also only had two international players in total before this season (Iceland's Elin Hrafnkelsdottir in 2021-22 and Spain's Queen Ikhiuwu in 2023-24).
- This year, Layla-J Cameron (Gold Coast, Australia), Laura Di Stefano (Rome Italy), Abby Jegede (Toronto, Canada), Gina Nikola Pirjak (Jezera, Croatia), Hannah Riddick (Calgary, Alberta), Teresa Seppala (Tampere, Finland) and Dora Toman (Budapest, Hungary) are all set to don the Royal Blue and Old Gold for the first time this season.
- Seppala (Finland), Pirjak (Croatia) and Toman (Hungary) are the first players from their respective countries to play for the Golden Hurricane women's basketball team.
On the Roster
- TU returns one starter and three of 12 letterwinners from last year.
- Mady Cartwright is the lone returning starter, while returning letterwinner Jade Clack and squad member Brynn Eshoo are back for their second seasons at TU.
- The three returners accounted for 21.72% of TU's minutes (1,401/6,450) and 22.8% of its points (492/2,158) last year.
- The Golden Hurricane coaching staff hit the transfer portal and secured seven transfer players over the offseason. They are Layla-J Cameron (Dodge City Community College), Laura Di Stefano (Salt Lake Community College), Shamaryah Duncan (North Texas), RyLee Grays (Virginia), Abby Jegede (Northeastern), Hannah Riddick (Memphis) and Teresa Seppala (Siena).
- The five true freshman this year are Haven Fisher (Prior Lake, Minn.), Josie Megehee (Shawnee, Okla.), Gina Nikola Pirjak (Jezera, Croatia), Alisha Peavy (San Antonio, Texas) and Dora Toman (Budapest, Hungary).
