Tulsa Downs Temple on the Road, 3-1

PHILADELPHIA — Tulsa (21-6, 11-4 American) defeated Temple (16-14, 5-10 American) in four sets at the Owls' McGonigle Hall on Friday evening, securing the match with scores of 18-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-23. Tulsa recorded 10 service aces in the victory.
 
Freshman middle blocker Jill Hanson had her best showing yet on the court, landing a team-high 16 kills with only three errors on 24 total swings to earn a .524 hitting percentage. It's the 12th time she's hit over .500 in a since match this season.
 
Tulsa and Temple engaged in a competitive first set, with both teams exchanging early points. Hanson led Tulsa with multiple kills, notably contributing to a slight lead at 5-3. However, Christiana Greene's consistent attacks for Temple, supported by Lexi Yoza, helped the home team secure a 10-8 advantage. Temple further extended their lead with a series of successful plays, including a service ace from Olivia Hummel, reaching 22-14. Despite the Golden Hurricane's efforts, including a service ace by Lauren Eitler, Temple closed the set with a decisive kill by Jaya Moore, winning 25-18.
 
Midway through the second set, Tulsa established momentum with a series of blocks and kills, forging a lead they maintained throughout. Hanson, aided by Brayden Hipp, contributed multiple kills, while Eitler and Olivia Vance bolstered the defense with crucial blocks. A strong service game from Brittany Bacorn, including two aces, helped extend Tulsa's advantage to 19-13. Despite a late effort from Greene and Temple, Tulsa capitalized on a service error to claim the set, 25-19.
 
Tulsa secured the third set with a 25-21 victory over Temple, bolstered by strong performances from Vance and Hanson. Vance contributed key points with a kill early on, leveling the score at 1-1, and later delivered another crucial kill to extend Tulsa's lead to 13-12. Bacorn's consecutive service aces at 6-5 and 7-5 further shifted momentum in Tulsa's favor. Despite Temple's efforts to stay competitive, Hipp consistently set up successful attacks, including the final point of the set, a kill by Vance to seal the win at 25-21.
 
Temple and Tulsa battled intensely in the fourth set, with Temple initially taking a commanding 7-3 lead, fueled by kills from Greene and Leia Harper, and then led by as much as 9 at 17-8. Tulsa responded with a strong comeback, tying up the score at 18-18, thanks to effective plays by Eitler and service consistency from Meg Goodwin. As the set progressed, both teams exchanged points, reaching a tense 23-23 tie after a critical block by Hanson and Vance. Tulsa secured the set with a decisive kill from Eitler, closing the set 25-23 and sealing the match victory.
 
Tulsa will wrap up the regular season on Sunday, November 16, against Tulane at 1 p.m.
