Tulsa Women Move to 5-0 with 73-57 Win Over Missouri State

11/22/2025 6:31:00 PM | Women's Basketball

TULSA, Okla. — Tulsa put together a 73-57 victory over previously undefeated Missouri State (5-1) Saturday in the Donald W. Reynolds Center, dominating the boards with a 45-31 rebounding edge and scoring a commanding 36 points in the paint to hand the Lady Bears their first loss of the season while improving to a perfect 5-0 record for just the second time in program history.

"Really proud of our team today," Head Coach Angie Nelp said. "I'm really proud of the way that we prepared for this game and proud of the way that we played on the floor. I felt like we had a really balanced attack, and we had great teamwork this game. One of the things that I felt was a major contributing factor to us winning was the rebounding that we had and that rebounding came from every single one of our players. [Dora Toman] ended up one shy of a double-double with nine of them. She did a great job for us, defensively and offensively this game. I think that our team is continuing to grow and continuing to be more connected on the floor, and we're really excited about this momentum that we have going into next week."

The first quarter saw Missouri State take the initial lead with Lainie Douglas's layup at 9:04. Tulsa responded with a three-pointer from Laura Di Stefano at 7:53, assisted by Jade Clack, and quickly expanded their lead as Mady Cartwright scored two free throws and a layup. However, Kaemyn Bekemeier's scoring surge, including a 3-pointer at 1:12, allowed the Lady Bears to edge ahead by one, 18-17, by quarter's end.

In the second quarter, the Golden Hurricane erupted offensively and clamped down defensively, outscoring their opponent 26-11. Layla-J Cameron drained a three-pointer at 8:47, assisted by Dora Toman, igniting Tulsa's offensive outburst. Cartwright continued her impressive performance, slicing through the lane for points and knocking down a fastbreak three at the 3:00 mark. Abby Jegede further extended the advantage with consecutive layups, pushing the lead to a comfortable 43-29 by halftime.

Tulsa maintained its grip in the third quarter despite the Lady Bears' rally attempts. Bekemeier hit another 3-pointer at 8:01, but Tulsa's Hannah Riddick responded with a layup at 6:45, assisted by Clack. Cartwright extended the lead with a fast-break finish at 6:21. Although Bekemeier added a late three-pointer, Toman iced the quarter with two free throws, securing a 54-41 lead.

The Golden Hurricane continued their dominance in the fourth quarter. Fisher drained a 3-pointer at 9:48, assisted by Clack, extending the lead. Although Kendal Brueggen responded with a layup for the Lady Bears, Tulsa's Clack and Riddick added layups of their own, widening the margin to 61-45. Despite a late 3-pointer by Maycee James, Tulsa's strong free-throw shooting, including two from Fisher at 1:59, iced the game at the line for a 73-57 victory.

Tulsa will head to The Bahamas during Thanksgiving week to take on Kent State (Nov. 28) and either Houston or Arkansas State (Nov. 30) in the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship.
