Tulsa in Season Openers
  • The Golden Hurricane women begin their 41st season on Wednesday against New Orleans.
  • TU is 16-24 all-time in season-opening games and 4-0 under fifth-year head coach Angie Nelp, who's led the Golden Hurricane to wins over Duquesne (77-62) in 2021, Alcorn State (82-33) in 2022 and Lindenwood (89-80) in 2023 and Arkansas-Pine Bluff (63-60) in 2024.
  • Tulsa has won its last five season openers and six of its last seven.

Facing the New Orleans Privateers
  • This will be the fifth all-time meeting between Tulsa and New Orleans and the first time Tulsa's played UNO in a season-opener.
  • TU leads the series 4-1 with wins in 1997, 2014 and 2023. Tulsa won the 2023 game 86-81 en route to a 25-win season.
  • New Orleans started their season on Monday at #22 Oklahoma State, losing 109-48 in Stillwater.
  • Last season, the Privateers went 5-24 overall and 5-15 in Southland Conference action, finishing with a 293 NET ranking out of 362 teams.
  • UNO has six newcomers on their team, including two Division I transfers, one NAIA transfer and three JUCO transfers.
  • Last time out, Shanihya Brown led all scorers with 11 points against the ranked Cowgirls. She averaged 2.7 points in 12.1 minutes off the bench in 27 games last year for the Privateers.

Nelp is Third-Winningest Coach in Program History
  • Head Coach Angie Nelp earned her 73rd win for the Golden Hurricane at UAB (2/22) in a 72-68 overtime comeback thriller, surpassing Charlene Thomas-Swinson's (2005-11) 72 wins for third on the all-time TU coach wins list.
  • Nelp won her 70th contest with the Hurricane in a 56-42 home win over Wichita State (2/1).
  • She is currently 76-49 after completing her fourth season.
  • No previous Tulsa coach had reached 70 wins in just their fourth season.
  • Only three other TU head coaches won more than 70 games in their careers.
  • Nelp needs 16 more to pass Kathy McConnell-Miller's (1999-05) 91 wins for second.
  • Nelp is the only coach in program history to earn 10+ home wins in three straight seasons.
  • Nelp is also the only coach to lead Tulsa to three postseasons.

Mady Cartwright Poised for Big Junior Season
  • Returning guard Mady Cartwright is expected to make a big leap in 2025-26 as the American Confernece head coaches have tabbed her a second team preseason all-conference player.
  • From Greenwood, Ark., Cartwright ended her sophomore season last year on a high note, scoring 10 or more points in the final seven games of the year to help push the Golden Hurricane to their third postseason in the last four seasons.
  • After starting in all 32 contests, Cartwright finished with averages of 10.5 points (336), 3.6 rebounds (116), 1.9 assists (61) and 1.5 steals (47) in 27.0 minutes per game.
  • Overall, Cartwright had 17 double-figure scoring games, including two 20+ point efforts, one double-figure rebounding contest and one double-double. She led Tulsa in steals for 10 games, assists in six contests, scoring on four occasions, and rebounds and blocks twice.

Teresa Seppala Nationally Recognized
  • Coming off a stellar junior season at Siena, senior Teresa Seppala was named to the 2025 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award Preseason Watch list. She is the second Golden Hurricane hooper to represent Tulsa on the watch list after Delanie Crawford made the list ahead of last season.
  • A guard from Tampere, Finland, Seppala appeared and started in 28 games last year for the Saints. She led the team with 16.7 points per game as well as 1.7 steals per outing, while averaging 6.2 rebounds per contest, marking the third consecutive year averaging that mark or better over the course of a season.
  • She set the Siena single-season free throw percentage record at 92.6% which ranked sixth nationally and scored in double-figures in 25 games, including nine with 20+ points and one over 30. She would end the year with two double-doubles.
  • As the first Finnish player to ever play for the Golden Hurricane, Seppala holds career averages of 13.7 points (1,189), 6.4 boards (558) and 1.7 assists (145) per game, while shooting 44.5% from the field, 37.8% from beyond the arc and 83.3% at the line in 74 starts spanning 87 total games played. She was a two-time MAAC First Team All-Conference choice, three-time MAAC player of the Week, a two-time MAAC All-Academic selection and made one appearance on the NCAA Lineup of the Week.

An International Take on Golden Hurricane Basketball
  • Tulsa's 2025-26 squad features seven international student-athletes on the 15-player roster.
  • No Angie Nelp team has ever had more than one player from outside the United States. She's also only had two international players in total before this season (Iceland's Elin Hrafnkelsdottir in 2021-22 and Spain's Queen Ikhiuwu in 2023-24).
  • This year, Layla-J Cameron (Gold Coast, Australia), Laura Di Stefano (Rome Italy), Abby Jegede (Toronto, Canada), Gina Nikola Pirjak (Jezera, Croatia), Hannah Riddick (Calgary, Alberta), Teresa Seppala (Tampere, Finland) and Dora Toman (Budapest, Hungary) are all set to don the Royal Blue and Old Gold for the first time this season.
  • Seppala (Finland), Pirjak (Croatia) and Toman (Hungary) are the first players from their respective countries to play for the Golden Hurricane women's basketball team.
