STILLWATER, Okla. — Tulsa (6-4) fell to RV/#22 Oklahoma State (11-2) on Monday, 90-58, at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, with the home team capitalizing on 33 points off turnovers. The Golden Hurricane's bench contributed 30 points, but the team could not overcome 31 turnovers on the floor.
The first quarter commenced with Micah Gray scoring a layup just 24 seconds into the game. Tulsa quickly responded with a defensive rebound by Hannah Riddick, but turnovers hindered their momentum. Riddick later scored the Golden Hurricane's first points with a layup at 6:20, narrowing the gap. The Cowgirls maintained a slight advantage, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Gray at 5:39, assisted by Achol Akot. Tulsa tied the score at 11 with a 3-pointer from Mady Cartwright at 3:07, assisted by RyLee Grays. However, a late layup by Jadyn Wooten with three seconds remaining gave Oklahoma State a 17-13 lead at the end of the quarter.
Oklahoma State extended their lead early in the second quarter with a 3-pointer from Lena Girardi at 9:51, assisted by Wooten. Tulsa struggled to find their rhythm, committing multiple turnovers, which allowed the Cowgirls to capitalize. Akot added two free throws at 8:36, bringing the score to 22-13. Cartwright responded with a fast break layup at 6:44, but Oklahoma State's defense forced 11 turnovers in the quarter, limiting the Golden Hurricane's scoring opportunities. Girardi further widened the gap with another 3-pointer at 1:58, concluding the quarter with Oklahoma State leading, 41-19.
The third quarter featured strong performances from both teams, with Tulsa outscoring Oklahoma State 24-20. Tulsa's Jade Clack contributed a 3-pointer and assisted on a Riddick layup early in the period. Amari Whiting of Oklahoma State responded with a layup and a 3-pointer, maintaining their lead. Despite Grays scoring six points from the free-throw line, the Cowgirls held their advantage, ending the quarter with a free throw from Wooten to secure a 61-43 lead.
Oklahoma State dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring Tulsa 29-15 to secure a 90-58 victory. The Golden Hurricane struggled with turnovers, committing six in the period, while Oklahoma State capitalized with five steals. Gray was instrumental for the Cowgirls, contributing multiple layups, including a fast-break score at 8:32, extending their lead significantly. Clack managed to break through with a layup at 7:05, but Oklahoma State's efficient shooting, including a 3-pointer from Whiting at 2:07, kept them in control. The game concluded with a 3-pointer from Tulsa's Haven Fisher at the 16-second mark, but it was not enough to close the gap.
The Golden Hurricane will return to the Donald W. Reynolds Center to host Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Thursday, December 18, for Education Day. Tip-off is slated for 11 a.m. Central.
