ORLANDO, Fla. –– The Golden Hurricane women's golfers carded an even par 288 in the final round of the PDI Intercollegiate at the Eagle Creek Golf Club in Orlando. Tulsa finished the three-day event in a tie for eighth at 7-under-par.
Baylor was able to hold off a late challenge from Duke to grab the team title. The Bears carded a 5-under-par 283 on the final 18 to finish 30-under for the tournament. Duke made Baylor sweat with a 278, 10-under performance that saw the Blue Devils finish two strokes off the leaders. North Carolina placed third, and Mississippi State and UCF tied for fourth to round out the top five.
"We talk a lot about discipline and the daily habits that are going to make us better," head coach Mike Roters said. "This team has embraced the process, and this tournament was a step in the right direction. Sydney Seigel put herself in the position to win a golf tournament and learned valuable skills in the process. Allyn Stephens had two solid rounds and has been very motivated and working hard. Her game is trending in the right direction.
"Lovisa Gunner came up huge for us in the last round and just shows grit at every moment. I'm excited to keep building the momentum as the season progresses and we have lots of work to put in and I know this team will embrace the grind."
Seigel was Tulsa's top individual finisher, shooting six under for the Intercollegiate to grab a tie for 18th place. She carded a 3-over 75 in her final day. Seigel played the first three holes of round three yesterday to get ahead of expected fog, and a double bogey set her back. The senior picked up a birdie on 10 to give her 12 for the tournament.
Gunnar moved up 19 spots into a tie for 25th after a 4-under, 68 on her final day. She recorded four birdies and picked up her second eagle of the weekend on the par-5 13th hole.
Sophomore Allyn Stephens finished 1-over for the day with a 73, and -3 for the tournament in a tie for 30th. Back-to-back birdies on six and seven highlighted her morning. Romaine Masserey shot 2-over-par on the final day to finish in a tie for 77th with an 8-over 54-hole score.
Hanna Robinett carded a 73 on Tuesday, finishing +1 for the day and 15-over for the Collegiate. The senior took 90th on the week.
The Golden Hurricane will return to the course on Monday, Feb. 24 for the beginning of the Chevron Challenge in Houston, Texas.
