TEMPE, Ariz. — University of Tulsa star duo Maria Berlanga Bandera and Lily Hutchings have finally cracked the nation's top 25 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) doubles poll Wednesday, ranking No. 18 at the highest level of college tennis – a career-high for the seniors in their fourth season with the Golden Hurricane.

Berlanga and Hutchings' newest ranking is the highest by a Tulsa women's pair since All-American duo Martina Okalova and Vera Ploner, who were ranked No. 5 in the 2019-20 ITA preseason fall rankings after finishing their historic 2019 All-American spring campaign at No. 13 in the country.

After previously ranking as high as No. 26 in the previous doubles ranking release in December, which came after Berlanga and Hutchings won the ITA Central Regional and made an appearance at the NCAA Doubles Championship, the two have been near unstoppable to start the dual-match season, winning their first seven matches for TU atop the lineup.

Berlanga, a team captain and all-conference performer from Málaga, Spain and Hutchings, a native of Preston, England, are 13-2 overall together and 7-1 in dual-match action so far this season. They have clinched the doubles point three times for Tulsa this year, including against Louisiana Tech, Oral Roberts and Central Arkansas.
