Tulsa Men’s Tennis Concludes Successful Weekend with Win over Illinois State

TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa men's tennis concluded its 3-0 weekend with a 5-2 rout of Illinois State Sunday afternoon in the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The Golden Hurricane improved to 6-5 on the year.

Doubles play was all Tulsa as the Hurricane swept all three positions, giving up only four combined games. Clinching the opening score for TU was junior Luis Felipe Miguel and redshirt sophomore Gus Tettamble, who worked together to claim a 6-2 victory in the two-spot. The pair move to 5-3 in the dual match season.

The Hurricane sprinted to the team victory at 4-0 with quick, straight-set winners by Miguel, Tettamble and freshman Adam Bojkovic in the first, fifth and sixth lines. It was Tettamble who clinched the win for Tulsa with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Caden Scarlett.

After electing to play out the remaining matches, Illinois State picked up a win on court No. 3, and Tulsa followed with a two-set win by junior Reiya Komagata in the four-slot (6-3, 6-4). Freshman Connor Doig was the last man standing at the No. 2 position but ran out of gas in the 10-point tiebreaker set at one set all.

The Tulsa men will return to the home courts in one week to host Nebraska (4-3) for a noon dual match on Sunday, Feb. 16.
