PRINCETON, N.J. — The Tulsa men's tennis team faced its second consecutive Ivy League school this weekend, falling 4-1 at No. 20 Princeton Sunday afternoon. The setback puts the Golden Hurricane at 7-9 on the season.
It took only two matches to determine a doubles winner as Princeton cruised to 6-2 and 6-3 wins in the second and third positions to claim the opening score. Sophomore Alex Okonkwo and junior Timothy Carlsson Seger left their match unfinished up 5-4 in the No. 1 spot.
Princeton knocked out a win at the six-spot in just over an hour and followed with straight-set victories in the second and fourth positions to clinch the team win. Okonkwo finished his match in the No. 1 slot just as the Tigers were wrapping up in the Nos. 2 and 4 courts. He went up against the nation's 26th-ranked player in Paul Inchauspe and came out on top in two sets, 6-1, 7-6. It goes down as Okonkwo's highest-ranked win in his two seasons at TU.
The Tulsa men will return home to the Michael D. Case Tennis Center to host Oklahoma State (4-8) on Wednesday, March 5, at 6 p.m. The match will stream on ESPN+.
